John Hervie Lewis, 88, passed away at home Thursday, November 5, 2015. A visitation will be Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Wiley Funeral Chapel in Glen Rose. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2015 at Elliott Cemetery in Gunter, Texas. Memorials can be made to a Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s charity organization of your choice.
“Hervie” was born June 5, 1927 in Gunter, Texas to James Burley and Maggie Lewis. He grew up in Gunter with his siblings and it was there he met Dorothy Bernice Jones. They married May 14, 1948. Together they moved to Dallas and opened a diner which they operated together until he took a position at Ling Timpco Vought aeronautics assembling military aircraft. He continued with Vought till he retired in 1990 as a Vice President. Hervie and Dorothy raised two sons John Michael and Gregory Paul. His beloved wife Dorothy passed away March 25, 1996. Hervie then married Loucille Hancock and moved to Glen Rose where they lived for almost 18 years. He is preceded in death by his wife Loucille; sister Ruby and Burlene; brother Ralph; and lifelong friends Bill W. Jones and Jimmy Alexander.
Survivors include: his sons Mike Lewis and wife Cyndi, Greg Lewis and husband Don, Eric Hancock and wife Lisa; grandchildren John Michael, Lisa, Robert, Clare; brother J.B. Lewis and wife Catherine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
