John Leland Turnbow Jr, born on August 29, 1957 in Dallas, Texas, and passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 in Weatherford, Texas surrounded by his children and the love of his life. John was a stranger to no one, a lover of music, a good conversation and great food. He attended Granbury High School, class of 1975 where he was the undisputed life of the party.
John joined the United States Navy in 1974 and was a Petty Officer 2nd class stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. He proudly served aboard the USS Nimitz, where he traveled to several exotic locations including Italy, Iran, Turkey and East Africa. He was honorably discharged in 1978. John was a proud PawPaw with a big heart, contagious laugh and a bright smile. Always willing to help out, John enjoyed teaching others, cooking, fishing and cheering on his beloved Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. A bit of an outdoorsman, John enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
John is preceded in death by his father, John Turnbow and his mother Geraldine Turnbow, brothers Steve Turnbow, Michael Turnbow and sister Lisa Applegate. John is survived by his son Dustin and fiancé Britney, daughters Danna and Deleigh, son-in-law Kyle, grandsons Calob, Jacob and Luke, and the love of his life Sharon, along with innumerable friends. He will be deeply missed by many.
A memorial service will be held at Wiley’s Funeral Home in Granbury, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on January, 30, 2021.
