Reginald Hilton Lambeth, 88 passed away on Friday February 10, 2023, at his home in Granbury, Texas. He was born July 28, 1934, in Canton, Texas. His father was deployed to Europe during World War II and he spent much of his childhood with his grandfather on a farm without indoor plumbing or electricity. After the war he deployed with his family to Japan. He returned to Fort Hood where he attended high school at Fort Hood High School, lettering in football, track, basketball, and baseball. He attended Stephen F Austin on a football scholarship where he was named a Little All American.
He was drafted into the US Army in 1959 and spent most of his service at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Tx. After his military service he made El Paso his home coaching football at El Paso, Ysleta, Irvin, and Austin High Schools. He also spent one year coaching football at UTEP. Although he loved El Paso, he wanted to return to coaching high school and the family relocated to Richardson, Tx where he coached at JJ Pearce High School. The next stop was Clarksville, Texas and finally Mansfield High School where he retired after over 30 years teaching and coaching. Working with young men was his calling and had lasting impact on countless young lives.
In retirement Hilton focused much of his time and energy on the golf course. He was a scratch golfer and won many club titles and senior club titles. One of his personal highlights was qualifying for the USGA Eastern Regional in Charlottesville, Va.
Hilton was preceded in death by his parents as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
Hilton is survived by his wife Mary Wright Lambeth. He is also survived by his children Charles Hilton Lambeth and his wife Ruth and Reggie Dawson; grandchildren Dylan Dawson and wife Laura, and Douglas Dakota Dawson; mother of his children Marthasu Lambeth.
Funeral services will be held at 10am. Tuesday, February 14, 2023 in the Chapel of Acton United Methodist Church, 3433 Fall Creek Hwy. Granbury. Burial will follow at Acton Cemetery under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury.
