Stephen Lynn Tillman

June 23, 1950 - May 3, 2023

The family of Stephen Lynn Tillman, with honor and heart felt sadness, announce the end of his life’s journey on May 3, 2023, in Wheatland Texas. Stephen was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Bill Joe and Nita (McDowell) Tillman on June 23, 1950.

Stephen’s very early years were ﬁlled with many carefree, sun ﬁlled days chasing parrots in Caracas Venezuela as his father worked for Halliburton there. His family returned stateside and settled in Midland Texas where Stephen attended Alamo Jr. High School and Lee High School where he was the president of his freshman class. He excelled in his favorite sports of basketball and baseball and lettered in both. Stephen attended Texas Tech University and answered the calling of his country enlisting in the US Marines. Stephen went on to form Tillman Drilling and Equipment of Dallas, Texas and Pure Spring Water Company of Granbury, Texas. Stephen was loved by family and friends alike as his infectious zeal for life was shared by all.

Stephen was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his longtime companion, Caroline Covington, Wheatland Texas; his mother, Nita Tillman of Granbury Texas; his brothers, Bill Tillman Jr. of Decatur, Texas and Michael Tillman of Granbury, Texas; his son, Stephen Reagan Tillman Richards, wife Autumn and their children Olivia, Presley and Ellie of Lubbock Texas.

There will be no formal service so in lieu of ﬂowers, donations on Stephen’s behalf may be made to his favorite charity, Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch. www.calfarley.org

I still think of Steve occasionally when I'm thinking 'pleasant thoughts'. Hanging out playing pick up baseball at Garrett Brown Park in the summers. Him competitiveness on the basketball court. Steve was what I think of as the proverbial Good Guy. Condolences to his family and close friends.

I remember him on the basketball court. He was a steady hand and if there had been three pointers then he would have been shooting them. Condolences to his family and friends.

I remember that Steve always kept us laughing. I remember when he was running for class President he got up in front of the entire school and read a "glowing" letter of recommendation". It had everyone enthralled until he signed off with the praise "signed" mother. Miss his positive energy and smile.

When I think of Steve I think of his smile and his love of life. He use to drive my father crazy but at the end of the day he was liked by everyone he met. I hope he had a wonderful life and I know the class of ‘68 will miss him! The world was a better place because of him.

I am so sorry to hear this! Steve and I were classmates from those Alamo Jr High days through the Texas Tech years. He was a great guy and so very kind. I wish for his family to know that he was was well liked and respected. Such a loss...
