LIPAN — A.J. Wartes, 88, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, in Weatherford.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at Lipan First Baptist Church. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery in Lipan. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wiley Chapel in Lipan.
A.J. was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Ralls, Texas, to Charles Marvin Wartes and Della Mae Diggs Wartes. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1947. A.J. had lived in Lipan since 1949 and was a member of Lipan First Baptist Church. He received his honorary high school diploma in 2005. He enjoyed telling jokes and raising cattle. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark and son-in-law, Royce Wright.
Survivors: Wife, Verna Mae Wartes of Lipan; son, Andy Wartes and wife, Trina, of Lipan, Ricky Wartes and wife, Shana, of Lipn; daughters, Charlotte Cloteaux and husband, Dale, of Reston, Va., Melody Ledbetter and husband, Ed, of Stephenville, Tammy Turner of Mineral Wells, Kim Wright of Millsap; adopted daughter, Dawn Hernandez and husband, Frank, of Mineral Wells; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Irene Rush of Granbury, Aileen Key of Fort Worth.
