GRANBURY — Alden Kermit Smith, 87, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, at his Granbury residence.
Memorial service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 26, 2014, at Wiley Funeral Home. Private burial services will be held prior to the service. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Kermit was born July 18, 1926, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to W.M. “Boston” and Irene Smith. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, Texas and played football at TCU before joining the U.S. Navy during World War Two. In 1945 he married Mary Ruth Seale in Fort Worth. He graduated from the TCU Ranch Management School. In 1951, Kermit and Ruth moved to Granbury, Texas where Kermit was involved in the cattle business and was the owner of Bond Feed Store.
Kermit served as president of the Granbury Chamber of Commerce, predident of the Hood County Appraisal District, board member of the Granbury Opera House, Administrative Board of First Methodist Church, and was involved in many other civic organizations.
Kermit loved playing golf and fishing. He loved to be with his friends and family and never met a stranger. Kermit helped many people in many ways to have successful lives.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years, Mary Ruth Smith, and his brother, Billy Joe Smith.

Smith and wife, Chanda, of Granbury; daughter, Julie Walker and husband, Buddy, of Garland; grandchildren, Emily Smith Low and husband, Todd, of Frisco, Kristin Smith Glenney and husband, Todd, of Grand Prairie, Jeff Walker and wife Daniela of Garland, John Walker and wife, Kendall, of Plano, and Sloane Smith of Granbury; great grandchildren, Abby Patchett, Avery Glenney, Cole Remington, Cade Remington, Max Glenney, John G. Walker, Kyelee Alford, Anna Julia Walker, Erik Low, Breece Low, Tanner Glenney; and nephews, Boston Smith, Coke Smith, Mixon Smith and Bo Smith.
