Audrey Lorene Newman Ward, 90, of Granbury passed away Wednesday, April 29,2020.
Lorene was born August 5,1929 in Granbury, Texas to K.T. and Bertha Newman, cotton farmers in Granbury. She was a graduate of Granbury High School. She was a legal secretary for a Federal Judge in Dallas, Texas for several years. Then she became a secretary for a Midland, Texas oil company. She married Midland Geologist H.L. Fisher in 1956 and they became avid golfers. She was widowed in 1964 and married golfing friend PGA Professional Pearl Ward in June 1965. They then moved to Lubbock, Texas and Arizona where she helped operate a golf shop and was a real estate agent. In 1989, she and Pearl returned to Granbury to be closer to family and opened Lake Country Driving Range in Acton, Texas. Lorene was a championship amateur golfer and was a member of the Granbury Women’s Golf Association. After Pearl retired, Lorene enjoyed working at Kroger in the Deli for many years. She was a loyal fan of the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Cowboys.
Lorene is survived by her daughter, Mimi Lempert and husband Allen, son Shawn Ward and wife Cheryl, granddaughter Stephanie Lempert and husband Polo Dobkin, grandson Joshua H. Lempert, great-granddaughter Sophia Lorena Dobkin-Lempert, brother-in-law John Ward and wife Charlotte and extended family and friends.
