Rev. Avery “Pud” Jones, 78, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, in Fort Worth.
Funeral: 1:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Wiley Funeral Home. Burial: Holly Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Rev. Jones was born Sept. 12, 1933, in Burke, Texas. He married Patricia Jackoskie, Feb. 26, 1981, in Humble, Texas. He graduated from Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minn. and was ordained in the United Pentecostal Church on Sept. 27, 1955 in Tulsa, Okla. He went into the U.S. Army in Nov. 1956 and was discharged in Nov. 1959. Avery pastored churches in Texas and Louisiana, evangelized and was a missionary in Central and South America. He maintained an extensive email ministry with devotionals and prayer requests going to many states and several countries. He was preceded in death by his parents, Avery Calvin Jones and Lois Small Jones; two sons, Avery Gene Jones Jr. and Dennis Conrad Jones; and step-son, John Emery Phillips.
Survivors: Wife, Rev. Patricia Jones; son and daughter-in-law, Avery Alan and Renate Susan Jones of Granbury; step-sons, William T. Phillips of Houston, Gary, Ronnie and Rex Pope of Spring; grandson, Ryan Avery Jones of Granbury; step-grandson, William Travis Phillips of Houston; step-granddaughters, Amanda Renate Wilson and husband, Zachary N., Tara Monique and Diane Marie Phillips of Houston; step great grandsons, Alexander Zachary and Matthew Ryan Jones of Granbury; close cousins, Rev. Harold L. and Juanita Small of Granbury, Maurice Jones, Teresa Kissinger, Sandy and Jimmy Beauchamp and Katherine Chuke, all of Diboll, Texas.
