Jerry Osborne left a message on October 7, 2018:
I met Jerl first. He greeted me as I attended H.O.O.T for the first time and introduced me to Anne and other members. After about two or three meetings, A preson I had never seen before walked in ( he looked a lot like Jerl). Anne didn't see him, so he sneaked up behind her and tickled her ribs. That's when I first learned that Jerl had a mischievous twin brother. Anne introduced me to Berl and I feel like we were friends right from the start. I got to know him better as time went by and got to hear him play his harmonica several times. One time was at the national harmonica convention, S.P.A.H, when he was playing on the open mic stage. After he finished playing, a guy came up and told Berl how well he played that song. At that point, I said "Well sure he played it well, it's the only song he knows!" (I'm a little mischievous myself). I got a big laugh form Berl because he knew I was only kidding. At the convention banquet, I was seated at the same table with Jerl and Berl. After dinner, the entertainment began. Lots of excellent harmonica players performed. There was one tune Berl liked so much that he began singing along with it. He was not quietly humming! No, he was SINGING! I fully expected him to jump up on the table for his big finish. Jerl kept telling him to "Stop it! Knock it off! You're bothering people!" I'm glad he didn't! I enjoyed every minute! Berl was a fun guy and a fun loving guy and I am extremely fortunate to have known him for the few short years that I did. I remember Berl well, from our days in High School at Old High, where Berl was Cheer Leader and Mr Howdy our Sr. Year, and the many times we would visit before Biology. Jerl was in my class and Berl was right next door, the same period. After our time in the Service, I remember going to hear him play his Harmonicas, when he would play here in town. I will always consider him a Friend and treasure my memories of him. God bless his Family and Friends. Let Him carres you and hold you as you grieve. Rest in Peace, Berl!

Berl was my Uncle, friend, songwriting partner and snow skiing cohort. I will miss his passion for life, his creativity, his unbelievable energy to always be on the go enjoying every moment of life. He was an inspiration to me for what is possible to accomplish in a day with an infectious positive attitude. I loved every moment I got to spend with him because he made each moment special.

Berl was our property manager for over 15 years both for our lake house and for our home in Fort Worth. He was doing this for us while working full time for American Airlines. Berl was not only exceptional in his responsibilities, he also became a very close friend and part of our family. Berl was DEEP. He did everything with Desire, Energy, Enthusiasm and Passion. He was one of a kind, and will be sorely missed.
