Betty Maxine Biggers

Betty Maxine Biggers went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

A Celebration of Her Life: 1 p.m. Monday at Lighthouse Fellowship, 7200 Robertson Road, Fort Worth 76135. The service will be live streamed at lfwired.org/live

Visitation: Noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Biggers Funeral Home.

Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park.

Memorials: To honor her memory, the family respect- fully requests that memorials be made in her name to Lighthouse Fellowship.

Maxine was born February 28, 1925 in Wichita, Kansas to James Newton and Bertha Clary Wakefield. She lived a long life of service to her family, her community, her business, and her Lord.
She was a pioneer and trailblazer throughout her life. She left her small family farm in Stephenville, alone, at the age of 17, to attend nursing school in Fort Worth. She worked as a nurse, taking
care of soldiers in the hospital in Temple, Texas.  She married, and had three children, working all the while to support and raise her family. In 1957, they purchased an existing funeral home in
Lake Worth, establishing it as Biggers Funeral Home.  She diligently worked two full-time jobs, raised a family, and attended mortuary school in Dallas. She graduated from The Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science with the class of 1964, she was licensed by the State of Texas as a funeral director and embalmer. She was one of the very first women funeral directors in the state of Texas.

She and her sons built and grew their business, earning a reputation as a quality, caring family funeral home, compassionately serving area families for over 6o years.  With the support of her  family, she was able to continue working at her funeral home until the age of 90.   She could usually be found at her desk, greeting and serving guests, both in person and on the phone.

She enjoyed travelling, spending time with her many friends, and cheering on her beloved Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.  Mrs. Biggers was a member of Lake Worth United Methodist Church (now Lighthouse Fellowship).  She was very active with the United Methodist Women, and River Oaks Rebekah Lodge #467, and Lake Worth Chapter #1109 Order of Eastern Star. Other memberships included the North Texas Funeral Directors Association, and The Northwest Chamber of Commerce. In 2019, she was recognized by the North Texas Funeral Directors Association with a lifetime achievement award.

The family is grateful to the staff of The Westmore Senior Living, Drs. Le and Tran, the Staff at River Park Medical, Encompass Home Health Care and Encompass Hospice Care for the care and kindness shown to their mother and grandmother during her final years.

Mrs. Biggers was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bertha  Wakefield, grandchildren, Courtney Biggers and Daniel Biggers; and brother and sister-in-law, Sonny and Helen Wakefield.

Survivors: She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Garner; sons, Larry Biggers and wife, Patty; Gary Biggers and wife, Theresa; grandchildren Cynthia Yonker and husband, Ron, Leanne Ferguson and husband, Chad, Keith Biggers and wife, Autumn, Jason Biggers, Ashley Savidge, Christopher Biggers and wife, Lydia, and Jennifer Biggers; ten great-grandchildren; two nieces, and numerous cousins.
