Betty Nelson Mitchell of Fort Worth, Texas, passed into the eternal presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

She was the fourth child and oldest daughter of George Ernest Nelson, Sr and Velma Frankie (Isbell).
Her parents moved their large family to Texas in the early 50s. She attended and graduated from Northwest High School in 1959. Her youngest sister, Darla, was her Home-Economics project during her senior year. She met Kennith through his friendship with her older brothers. He wrote letters to her brother Charles when he was drafted into the army. Charles wasn’t much of a letter writer, and Betty took it upon herself to answer Charles’s letters. The rest, as they say, is history. They were married when he returned, and she graduated high school.
Betty had an undying love for her family and friends. She was the cornerstone and rock for her entire family. Her younger sisters and brothers looked to her as another mother figure.
Her treasures were her husband and daughters, Anna Kathleen and Patricia Lynn. They were her everything until her grandchildren arrived. Kennith, Carla, Kristine, and Joseph were her heart. She would have walked a million miles to get to them. She didn’t think her heart could be fuller until her great-grandson Henry arrived.
Betty had a servant’s heart. There wasn’t a family event that she was not front and center. She rocked the babies, sat with the sick, comforted the sad, and celebrated others’ achievements. Her belief in Christ was her backbone and her answer for any of life’s trials.
She retired from Lockheed Martin at 62, promising her Lord that if he allowed her to retire early, she would serve him in any way she could. One way she did this was through her home church, Metropolitan Baptist. She took the elderly to doctor’s appointments, to visit a spouse in long-term care, and sat with home-bound members so their family caregivers could have some free time.
Her legacy of service and love of Christ in all situations is the example her family will strive to embrace.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kennith W. Mitchell; her brothers, George Jr., Charles, Jimmy, Joseph, and Fred; and sisters, Agnes, Margie, and Darla.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Anna (Doug) Hibbard and Patricia Neville; Grandchildren, Kennith Neville, Carla (Steve) Freeman, Kristine (Kerry) Chappell, and Joseph Neville; Great-grandson, Henry Chappell; Sisters, Emily Brock, Anne Sanderson, Lynnette Sproles, Barbara Weatherly; and countless nieces and nephews.
