Billie Jean “Bawk-ba” Pickens, 89, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018. Celebration of life: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM, Monday, April 2, 2018, Quail Park, Great Room, 2300 Paluxy Highway, Granbury.
Billie was born on July 19, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas to Willie and Rosa Lena Baker. She had beautiful blue eyes which sparkled. She was the valedictorian of Freer High School, class of 1946. She was a very independent career woman, who worked for 35 years at Exxon Corporation in the accounting department.
Billie was a strong Christian woman, who was a member of First Baptist Church, Glen Rose. She was loyal, extremely positive and never complained. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body, never said a bad word about anyone, and was tough as a boot. Billie was a sports fanatic and she loved to play cards.
Billie married Herbert Owen Pickens on December 11, 1970. She loved her family and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband: William Jasper Bailey, husband: Owen Pickens, brothers: Fred Baker and John Baker, sister: Leta Mae Parr, and sister-in-law: Cynthia Baker.
Billie is survived by her children: Janice Nickell and husband Clint and Steve Bailey and wife Cindy, grandchildren: Haley Jean Bruce and husband Brandon, Reece Nickell, Cody Bailey, Ryan Bailey and Kelly Bailey, great-grandchildren: Rendon Bruce and Haddie Bruce, brother: Bill Baker, sisters-in-law: Carla Baker and Mary Jo Baker and a host of friends that were like family.
