My Uncle Sammy was one of my childhood heroes. When we would visit during the summer, he kept us entertained, helped us ride a donkey, even taught us to fish. He always teased us, as well. One time, many, many summers ago, I spent the night in the old house and Sammy and Monte pretended to hear a news report on a AM transistor radio that wild animals had escaped from the zoo (this was before Fossil Rim existed) and the animals were running loose in Glen Rose. They would make noises and act all scared, I was scared, but I knew my uncles would protect me. I loved Sammy and have really missed him. I hope Ben and Wendie know they are my thoughts today.
