GRANBURY — Charles M. Allerton, 98, of Ledyard, Conn., and formerly of Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at a Mystic, Conn., rehab center.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, in the mausoleum chapel of Holly Hills Memorial Park. Interment: Holly Hills Memorial Park.

He was born Aug. 23, 1913, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to the late Raymond and Emma Baldwin Allerton. He married his loving wife, Charlotte Hacker Allerton, on June 25, 1939, in Carmen, Okla. She predeceased him.
Charles was a U.S. Army veteran and received the Purple Heart while serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal transportation clerk for the Railway Mail Service.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Gordon; and brothers, Myron, Robert and Jack Allerton.
Survivors: He is survived by a daughter, Laura Uschmann and her husband, Stuart, of Ledyard, Conn.; grandchildren, Rebecca Frechette, Elizabeth Geer and her husband, Kenneth, Alison Miller and her husband, Ed, Nathan Uschmann and his wife, Katherine, Christopher Gordon and his wife, Maury, Eric Gordon and his wife, Julie, and Brian Gordon. He also leaves behind a son-in-law, Ronnie Gordon and several nieces and nephews.
