Charles “Chuck” Merrill

Charles “Chuck” Russell Merrill, Jr., 71, of Azle, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Visitation:  6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 20,2021 followed by a, 7:00 pm Rosary at Biggers Funeral Home .

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 21, 2021 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Fort Worth

Burial: Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth.  (Following the service, there will be a meal at 112 Lamplighter Ct, Azle, Texas 76020, all are welcome).

Charles Russell Merrill, Jr. was born February 27, 1950, in Fort Worth, TX, a son of Charles Russell Merrill, Sr., and Mary Alice (Murphy) Merrill.

Chuck was baptized and a lifelong member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, he founded the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church musical group in 1969 with fellow members Rob Robertson, Buzz Queppett, Jean Queppett, Rob Ross, and Joe Kuban. The group provided liturgical music for Mass and other church events.

He graduated from Nolan Catholic High School, class of 1968, and later attended Tarrant County College where he completed his Degree in Nursing in 1998.

Chuck spent 27 years working as a Registered Nurse between Osteopathic Hospital and John Peter Smith Hospital, both in Fort Worth, Texas. He retired from John Peter Smith Hospital in May of 2021. He was honored as one of the “Great One Hundred Nurses” by the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council and Texas Nurses Association. Well respected and beloved by his colleagues and patients, he devoted his life to helping others.

He married the love of his life, Linda Susan Smart, on May 23, 1975, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a devoted husband and loving father to his four children and grandson.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Russell Merrill, Sr. and Mary Alice (Murphy) Merrill and both his maternal and fraternal grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Susan (Smart) Merrill; two sons, Cody Russell Merrill and Cameron Russell Merrill; two daughters, Ashley Nicole Merrill and Lindsey Michelle (Merrill) Sims; son-in-law, Daniel Sims; one grandson, Kaden Bryce Merrill;  sister, Kathleen Marie (Merrill) Robertson and her husband, Floyd “Rob” Robertson;  brother, Michael Patrick Merrill and his wife, Veronica (Morales) Merrill; stepmother, Christine Merrill; two aunts, Pat Mackey and Margie Barnard; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Chuck will forever be missed by his family and friends.  Anytime we see Snoopy, we will always think of you.
