Charles E. Winchell, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, June 10, 2013.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Biggers Funeral Chapel. An additional service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bates Family Funeral Home in DeKalb. Interment: Woodmen Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Biggers Funeral Home.
Charles was born in Hatton, Ark., on April 16, 1935, to Ruby and Charles Winchell. Charles graduated from DeKalb High School before attending Texarkana College. In 1957, he moved to Fort Worth and completed electrical trade school while volunteering with the Texas National Guard. As an ordained minister, Charles had a heart for prison ministry and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. A resident of Blue Mound for 52 years, he served his community as building inspector and city councilman. Charles was a member of the Lake Worth Masonic Lodge and the Lake Worth Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Beverly; daughters, Sarah Kugler, Amy Ensminger and Mary Kay Winchell; son, Matt Winchell and wife, Kathy; six granddaughters, Laura Kammerer, Jessica Ensminger, Kate Luce, and Madison, Morgan and Emma Winchell; sister, Charlene Pynes; brother, Walter Winchell; as well as a host of family and friends.
