Charles Fowler

GRANBURY — Charles “Chuck” W. Fowler, 73, a retired USAF lieutenant colonel, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 2, 2012.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury. Interment: 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to to 8 p.m. Monday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Men’s Ministry of Lakeside Baptist Church, 500 W. Bluebonnet Drive, Granbury, Texas 76048.
Chuck was born Nov. 12, 1938, in Mexia to Bill and Velma Fowler. He graduated from Mexia High School in 1957, Navarro College in 1959 and North Texas University in 1961. Upon graduation from North Texas he embarked upon a career in the United States Air Force. During his tours of duty, Chuck served as a squadron commander, Amarillo AFB; staff officer, Manpower Directorate at Headquarters Air Training Command, San Antonio; management engineering detachment commander, Biloxi AFB, Miss.; staff officer, Directorate of Manpower at Headquarters United States Air Force Europe, Wiesbaden and Ramstein AFB, Germany; executive officer, Air Force Management Engineering Agency, San Antonio; commander, Air Force Personnel Management Engineering Team, Randolph AFB; and director of Manpower Requirements, Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Omaha, Neb. He completed studies at the Air Force Squadron Officers School, the Air Command and Staff School and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He also obtained a master’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
Upon retirement from the USAF, Chuck was employed as vice president of Shared Services, Harris Methodist Health Services, and served as secretary to the Board of Directors of the Harris Methodist Health System, Fort Worth. Before his final retirement, he became involved in various real estate programs in the Fort Worth-Dallas metroplex.
Chuck married his high school sweetheart, Carole Anne Smith of Mexia, in 1963. The couple welcomed their beloved and outstanding son, Chad in 1970. Together they enjoyed meeting and being with so many friends during their Air Force travels. Upon retirement the family moved to Arlington and subsequently to Pecan Plantation in Granbury. Throughout his retirement years, Chuck continued his commitment to service through actively working as a greeter, usher, Sunday school department head and trustee at Lamar Baptist Church in Arlington; a volunteer with the Lakeside Baptist Church’s Loaves and Fishes Program in Granbury; and a worker in the Bill Glass Champions for Life schools ministry program. He also served on the Pecan Plantation Homeowners Association’s Architectural Control Committee, Election Committee and Marina Committee and was a member of the local MGA. His major goals in life were to be a witness for his Lord, a loving husband and father and an effective servant for his country and community.
Survivors: Carole Fowler, beloved wife of 49 years; son, Chad W. Fowler, daughter-in-law, Jennifer, and precious grandchildren, Andrew and Meghan, of Germantown, Tenn.; brother, Ron Fowler and sister-in-law, Kay, of Mexia; brothers-in-law, Jim Smith and wife, Jimmie, of Waco and Richard Smith of Huntsville; and numerous additional family and friends.
