Cruz C. “Bob” Montañez, 72, of White Settlement, passed away September 22, 2015.
Service: A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Biggers Funeral Home.
Bob was born on May 4th, 1943 in Big Spring, Texas. He graduated from Big Spring High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and began Master’s work from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
Bob was married to Anita Montañez (Porras) on April 25, 1980; they were married for 35 years.
Bob served his country during the Vietnam war. He was an educator in the public schools for 32 years and retired from administration as a Bilingual Specialist in 2001. He worked in Lubbock, Big Spring, and Ector County ISDs. His lifelong love of children made him an excellent educator. He was known by both students and fellow teachers as, “Mr. Bob”. He enjoyed gardening and would be out before the sun was up, and would be out long after it had set. He was also an advocate for underdogs of the world; he wanted to give a voice to those without one.
Perhaps his most favorite and loved job was being a grandfather for the last 16 months of his life. He referred to his grandson, Miles, as “The Center of My Heart and My Best Buddy”.
Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Lila Rodriguez; as well as his brother, Gilbert Rodriguez Sr, and his sister Anna-Maria Rodriguez.
Survivors: Bob is survived by his wife, Anita; his son, Julio Montañez and his wife Sara; as well as his grandson, Miles; and his brother Manuel Rodriguez of Big Spring, Texas.
