GRANBURY — Dan Droemer, 91, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012 in Granbury.
Funeral: 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Acton United Methodist Church. Burial: 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Burkeville Cemetery in Burkeville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Memorials: Methodist Children’s Home in Waco or the Acton United Methodist Church Bell Choir.
Dan was born June 20, 1920, in San Antonio, Texas, to B.C. and Elizabeth Winrich Droemer. He married Mattie Mae Miller, Sept. 5, 1942, in Tampa, Fla. He was in the Signal Corps during World War II, attached to the Air Corps as Radio Officer in a Signal Co. of the 5th Fighter Command in the S.W. Pacific Theater, participating in the invasion and liberation of the Philippines. His company was involved in a paratrooper attack the evening of December 6, 1944. He left the service with the rank of Captain in 1945, (he enlisted as a private in the Army in 1940, rising to the rank of Captain), enrolling at Texas A&M. He received his BSEE degree in 1949, being the first member of the entire Droemer family to receive a college or university degree. He was a distinguished student, member of Scholarship Honor Society, and a member of the initial group inducted in the newly formed Texas Delta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Fraternity). He worked for Shell Oil Co. Exploration Production, Houston, leaving in 1970 to join Ocean Services Division of Fluor Engineering & Construction Co. He was manager of the Mechanical Engineering Dept. of the Ocean Services Division at the time of his retirement in 1983. He was a registered Professional Engineer, a member of the Century Club and a long time licensed Radio Amateur. He enjoyed his ham radio, fishing and working with computers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Mae Miller Droemer on July 14, 2006.
Survivors: Daughter, Margaret Gessley and husband, Dan; son, Daniel R. Droemer, Jr. and wife, Millie; granddaughter, Amy Gessley Klein; grandsons, Michael D. Gessley, Lee R. Droemer, Matthew Droemer; four great grandchildren; sister, Gladys Zgabay; and numerous nieces and nephews.
