Daryll served his country in Vietnam, where his rank was staff sergeant with the Air Force military police. When he left the military, he joined the Burleson Police Department. His rank was lieutenant when he retired 20 years later. He had a number of accomplishments during his law enforcement career. Here are a few: He attended the FBI Academy in Quantico in 1987. While with Burleson he helped the department become accredited, which was the first police department in Texas to do so. He put together and trained a SWAT team for the department, which assisted area departments on different cases. Daryll loved music, both playing guitar and singing. He pursued this passion for a good many years after leaving the police department. He had many other things he accomplished in his too short lifetime. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend. Everyone who knew him knew he would be there if they needed him. He was good and honorable and loved his family very much.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph D. Markum, in June 2014.
Daryll is survived by his wife, Darla J. Markum of Fort Worth; stepmother, Louise Markum of Azle; brothers, Larry Markum, Todd Hawkins and Marc Markum, all of Fort Worth; son, Jeff Markum and fiancee, Theresa Newcity, of Vermont; stepchildren, Candace Lovelace, Jason Cudd and his wife, Nichole, all of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Dylan, Ava and Austin Markum, Jeremiah and Colby Lovelace and Cayden Cudd.
