David Garrett Waddell, 78, of Granbury, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Preceded in death by his wife, Pat Waddell, May 13, 2019. Services will be held at a later date. The family will release information regarding the services when they are available.
Garrett was born on February 10, 1941 in Houston, Texas, the only child, to David and Portia Waddell. He attended Moye Catholic Military Academy for Boys in Castroville and Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont. Garrett followed in his father’s footsteps and honorably served in the United States Air Force. He married Patricia Gardner, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 2, 1977 in Philadelphia. They had one daughter, Sarah Vanderpool, of Granbury, in August of 1981. Together they lead a full and exciting life of travel, motorcycle and vintage car racing, snow skiing, wine tasting, and spending time with family. He worked as an Electrical Engineer to build and start-up sites like Comanche Peak.
Garrett was deeply devoted to his family. He was also highly competitive and had a passion for racing. He raced Corvettes in the SVRA and SCCA across the country. He also instructed drivers at Cresson Motorsports Ranch and Circuit of the Americas. He was a member of the Brazos River Corvette Club. Garrett also enjoyed participating in bicycle competitions.
Garrett is survived by his daughter, Sarah; grandsons, Keegan and Teddy; cousins Cathey, Susan, Roberta, Jill, and Norma; as well as a large extended family. He was greatly loved and is greatly missed.
