GRANBURY — Donald M. Asa, 86, went home to his Lord and Savior Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in Granbury, Texas.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church of Granbury. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday July 14 at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.
Don Asa was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He was born May 14, 1928 in Irvington, Iowa. He married his high school sweetheart, Janie Brown of Algona, Iowa, in New York while serving in the U.S. Navy and was blessed with 64 years together and 4 children. Don was always a man with a dedicated heart of service. He was a distinguished worker for Ford Motor Company for over 40 years. He took pride in working hard to provide for his family and to give back to his community. Don has been a well respected citizen of Granbury since 1977. He was an active member of the Granbury Lions Club, 60 years with the Masonic Lodge, a past worthy patron of Eastern Star, a member of the Shrine and belonged to the Fraternity of Quiet Birdmen. Don enjoyed aviation, traveling, had a love for fishing and hunting and adored his family and many friends. Anyone who knew him, knew he loved a good practical joke, had a twinkle in his eye and he was always ready for the next card game. He will be missed by so many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Simmons Brown Asa and one sister, Phylis Peterson.
Survivors: Children, Donna Sollima, Mary Asa-Power, Bill Asa and Nancy Fitzgerald. He was blessed with 9 treasured grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his four siblings, Ken Asa, Kathryn Cavanagh, Howard Asa and Eugene Asa.
