Donald Michel

Donald Ernest Michel, 73, of Granbury, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018. Memorial service: 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 12, 2019, The Church on Thistle Ridge, 4900 Sonterra Court, Granbury, Texas 76049.

Donald was born on March 2, 1945 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Theodore and June Michel. He began his study of Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and then completed his studies at Western New England College. Donald worked for Bell Helicopter for several years working on the V-22 project and later retired from Lockheed Martin as a Staff Systems Engineer of Special Projects where he worked on the Japan F-2 Program. He developed and redesigned parts for aircraft for which he received awards and patents.

Donald married Holly on July 29, 1989 in Arlington. In 1996, he received and thrived as a heart transplant recipient for 22 years.

Donald was an ombudsman for the state of Texas working as an advocate for nursing home patients to receive safe and quality care. Additionally, he became a chaplain in 2015 providing comfort and reassurance for this population. In the last several years, Donald became passionate in his pursuit in the study of Hebrew culture and language and enjoyed sharing his discoveries with church members.

Donald is survived by his loving wife: Holly Michel, daughter: Karen Louise Holland, twin sons: Christopher Wayne Michel and Gregory Thomas, step-sons: Aron Merritt and wife Brandi, and their children: Chance, Meagan, and Makaylee, and Shaun Merritt and his children: Julia and Logan, brother: Quentin Wayne Michel, and his son: Ethan Theodor Quentin Michel, his uncle Paul Record and his beloved Yorkies: Daisy and Rosy.
