Donnie Lee Mears

March 10, 1948 - October 31, 2012

Donnie Lee Mears, Master Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps (Retired) passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at his home.

Service: 10 A.M. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Castle Hills. Committal with military honors: Ash Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Biggers Funeral Home.

Memorials: The Marine Corps Toys for Tots in Wise and Tarrant Counties.

Mr. Mears was born in Caney, Atoka County, Oklahoma. He graduated from Azle High School and served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring in 1988 with 21 years of service. MSgt Mears saw action in 3 wars and was proud to bring every one of his Marines home. His family was honored as military family of the year in 1983 while stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina.

Donnie was preceded in death by a brother, Hoyle Mears on August 4, 1966.

He is survived by: his children, Jeffrey “Scott” Mears, Jennifer Mears, Angela Bennet, Breanne Bridges; parents, Murphy Lee and Pearline Virginia “Polly” Mears; siblings, Retha Schultz, Marlin Mears, Debbie Storm and Keith Mears; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild: and a large extended family.
