GRANBURY — Dorothy Fay Tilson, 91, passed away Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, in Granbury.
Funeral: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Granbury First Christian Church. Burial: 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Indian Harbor Volunteer Fire Department or the Scholarship Fund at First Christian Church of Granbury.
Dorothy Fay Cartwright was born Jan. 4, 1923 to Aubrey Ray Cartwright, Sr. and Thelma Hodges Cartwright in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from Pascal High School and attended Texas Wesleyan College. Dorothy was an accomplished violinist. She was a member of the Pulliam Orchestra in Fort Worth. The group preformed in the North Texas area. As a girl, Dorothy wanted to be an elevator operator. She got to fulfill this wish at the USO in Fort Worth during World War II.
Dorothy married Fred H. Tilson on July 4, 1947 at Southside Church of Christ in Fort Worth. They were married until his death in 2004. She was a Real Estate Broker of over 40 years, still making sales at age 89. Dorothy was also a long time office manager for the Indian Harbor Community in Granbury. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Granbury. Her greatest joys were her love for her grandchildren and love for her church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Aubrey Cartwright, Jr.
Survivors: Daughter, Patti Tilson of Granbury; sons, Wayne Tilson of North Richland Hills, Richard Tilson of Alvarado; sister, Mildred Ford; grandchildren, Mandy Tilson, Lindsey Ugoji, Chelsea Cutrer, Jessica Tilson, Kristopher Tilson, Whitney Page; 9 great grandchildren; nephews, nieces and other family and friends.
