Dorothy was born on January 9, 1930, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to Haskell (Hack) and Millie Markum. She graduated from Polly High School in Ft. Worth in 1947. She married and had 4 children in Ft. Worth, and she moved to Houston in 1956. She moved back to Ft. Worth in the early 1980’s and eventually remarried in the early 1990’s. In 2011 she moved to Canyon Lake, Texas, to live with her daughter and near her sons.
While in Houston, Dorothy raised her 4 children and a grandchild. She was very active in her kids’ schools and in their lives. She was Kelso Elementary PTA president twice, Mother’s Club President for DeMolay’s twice, and Cub Scout Den Mother, all while working at various businesses for many years. Dorothy developed many long-lasting friendships that continued for over 65 years. She had a passion for buying, selling, and collecting antiques; for doing crafts; for watching kids’, grandkids’, and great grandkids’ sports; and for being with all the other members of her large family, especially during family reunions. She loved going to the antique shop owned by her son Jerry and her daughter Donna in Canyon Lake, and she really enjoyed visiting with their customers, many of whom also became her friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her late husband, DL Bruner; her first husband, Weldon Hendon; her sister, Geneva Nichols; her brother, Doyle Markum; and her first son, Benny Hendon.
