Henry Wilson Thomas Jr., a retired physician, passed away Monday, February 18, 2012, in Fort Worth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Biggers Funeral Home where a vigil service and rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the St. Thomas the Apostle Building Fund, 2920 Azle Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76106.
Dr. Henry Wilson Thomas Jr. was born April 27, 1922 in Commerce to Henry Wilson and Rebecca Thomas. After graduating from medical school, H.W. served as a physician in the United States Army. Upon discharge from the service, he began private practice in Jourdanton for two years before coming to Fort Worth in 1950. He served many families on Fort Worth’s north side as a doctor and friend until closing his practice in 1997. He was a longtime and active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church where he served as lector for many years. He was a strong supporter of Right to Life and a longtime member of the Cowtown Civitan Club.
Dr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Marie, on June 10, 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Ione Hooten Thomas; children, Cecilia Thomas, John Thomas and wife, Cathy, Joseph Thomas and wife, Ann, James Thomas and wife, Betty, Mary Keating and husband, Jeff, and Joan Houston; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
