GRANBURY – Durcie Edward “Dee” Freeman, 93, passed away Friday, October 23, 2020. Dee was born in Poteau, Oklahoma on September 13, 1927 to Durcie O. and Ruby Freeman. He graduated from Oklahoma Military Academy and attended Eastern Oklahoma A&M College (now Eastern Oklahoma State College). Dee served in the Navy during WWII, and then the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the South McAlester Masonic Lodge.
In 1956, Dee married Doris Mae Barringer. They were married almost 59 years when she preceded him in death in 2014. They had two sons, Rick and Chuck. During their long marriage, Dee had a successful career as an Engineering Inspector, which he continued until he was well into his 70’s. Dee, Doris and their sons lived mostly in Texas, but for ten memorable years, the family lived in Anchorage, Alaska. In retirement, Dee and Doris enjoyed their house on Lake Conroe, where Dee was an avid fisherman. Later, they moved to Granbury to be near Chuck and his family. Dee was an outgoing person who loved being with his friends.
In addition to Doris, Dee was preceded in death by his son, Rick and two sisters. He is survived by his son, Chuck and wife Terri, as well as grandchildren Payton, Mason, Kimberly and Justin.
