GRANBURY — Edith Lorene Stone Scoggins, 95, longtime resident of Granbury and lately Waco, went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Friday, October 7, 2011. Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wiley Funeral Home. Burial: 3:30 p.m. in Jenkins Springs Cemetery in Early. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Association.
Lorene was the youngest of ten siblings, all of whom are deceased. She married Elvis Proctor Stone on Oct. 29, 1933 in Fort Worth who passed away Oct. 2, 1982. She married William Jessie Scoggins, Sr. on Dec. 29, 1986 in Granbury who passed away Nov. 23, 2002. She was a devout servant of the Lord, devoted mother and grandmother, “Lorene” as she was called displayed a pleasant air and shone the love of the Lord in virtually everything she did. She was a member of the Granbury Church of Christ for many years and of Northside Church of Christ after relocating to Waco due to health issues. She enjoyed gospel music and “old-timey” bluegrass music, quilting, sewing and helping others. She was loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Survivors: Daughter, Frances LaFon and husband, Forrest D. “Red” Commander of Granbury; son, James Harless and wife, Nancy Lynn Stone of Arlington; grandson, Forrest D. “Pete” and wife, Carolyn Faye Commander of Waco; granddaughters, Sherry Lynn Peek of Odessa, Terri Lynn and husband, Kyle Lewis of Stephenville, Jamie Leigh Haight of Arlington, Ellen Kathleen Fenske of Waco and Jennifer Anne Commander of Los Angeles, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Mallory Peek of Odessa, FC3 Forrest D. “Terry” Commander III, USN of Norfolk, Va., Ryan Haight and Dylan Haight of Arlington; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
