Ed was born on June 28, 1943 in Madison, Wisconsin to Veta Magnesco and Claude W. Abbott. Ed was the oldest of the three siblings, and was adored by his younger brothers, who felt Ed was a second father to them.
Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1960 – 1964, being stationed in Germany, where he met his future wife Christina “Christine” Pansky. Ed & Christine returned to Madison and were married on July 18, 1964, and were inseparable during their marriage, as they worked in the family business together for 26 years, until Christine’s passing due to cancer in 2004.
Ed was fortunate enough to meet a second love of his life, his current wife, Sherry Oler Abbott. Ed & Sherry were married on April 20, 2006 and enjoyed many years of travels and happiness.
Ed was an extremely outgoing, gregarious, and energetic man, who lived life to the fullest. He was loved not only by his family, but by most that meet him, including the many employees that worked for his company, numerous business and industry associates, friends, neighbors, and countless others who meet him through his many ventures and adventures.
Ed was a man of many interests, and while he enjoyed hard work, striving for success, and making everyone around him better, he also was a long-time motocross racer, enjoyed deep-sea fishing, traveling, was an avid RV’er, and there was no home improvement project that was too big for Ed to conquer.
Ed was a shrewd and successful businessman and entrepreneur. He was well respected in the Truck & Automotive Aftermarket industry, being revered throughout the country as a pioneer and innovator. He built his company with the philosophy, “Treat Others As You Want To Be Treated”, and he instilled this in every single employee he hired. Ed truly lived the “American Dream”.
Above all else, Ed is best known for his generosity and desire to help others. His generosity and compassion extended not only to his family, friends, and employees, but also to strangers and people he had never met.
Ed will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Ed will truly be missed.
