Elaine Sweet Russell Beeman

Elaine Sweet Russell Beeman, 93, formerly of Granbury, died peacefully surrounded by friends on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017 in Granbury.

Service: 11:30 AM, Thursday, October 5, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Worth.
Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.

Born in Wichita Falls, TX on Feb. 20, 1924, Elaine was the daughter of F.D. and Anna Sweet Russell. She was the granddaughter of O.L. Sweet, Sr, Sheriff of Tarrant County in 1909 and Texas State Congressman from Tarrant County until his death in 1923.

Elaine was a graduate of Paschal High School before entering TCU in 1940. After receiving her B.A. in music, she married Lt. Claude Beeman, Jr. who was once her paperboy. They lived in Asheville, N.C. where Claude helped organize at the many resort hotels, the first R and R for World War II soldiers returning from battle overseas. Until the R and R was ready to function, the officers and their wives lived in Grove Park Inn for one dollar a day.

Elaine taught music in Biltmore School to children of the staff of Vanderbilt-Biltmore Estate. After their return to Texas, Claude was a landscape architect with the Carter and Burgess firm. Elaine received her M.A. in English from TCU and was employed by Fort Worth ISD. She taught 12th grade English at Green B. Trimble High School and was also Chairman of the English Department. She had attended Our Savior Lutheran Church in Granbury regularly until her recent illness.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude Beeman, Jr.; sons, Claude Beeman III and Charles Russell Beeman; and sister Mary Genevieve Nash.

Survivors: Several cousins, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Stephanie and Brian Matlock and family for their love and care for several years.
