Elton H. Wetz, 90, of Fort Worth, formerly of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020.
Service: 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 9, 2020, Biggers Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 8, 2020, Biggers Funeral Home.
Elton was born November 4, 1929, in New Braunfels, Texas to the late Edgar and Linda Harms Wetz. Elton was a banker for 18 years. He was with the Guaranty State Bank in New Braunfels for 9 years and with the First National Bank in San Antonio for 9 years. In 1972, he formed his own mortgage banking business and was active in it until his death. He was well known throughout Texas and several other states for arranging loans and had great contacts for arranging large casino loans.
He was a member of the Richland Hills Methodist Church. Elton was Commander of the American Legion Post 179 in New Braunfels in 1959. During his term the post reached an all-time high of 1,009 members. He was also Vice-Commander of the 14th District. In 1969, he was elected President of the Bank Administration Institute of San Antonio. During those years he was also active in the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and the South Texas Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Belen.
Elton is survived by his two step-sons, Jesse G. Rodriguez and wife, Rose of San Antonio and Ernest G. Rodriquez and wife, Juanita of Fort Worth; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; nephews and cousins; and a very very special friend, Nancy Stieber.
Interment will be at a later date at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
