George S. Murray, 85, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Lakeside. Interment will be at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Biggers Funeral Home.
George was born March 15, 1928, to George E. Murray and Ethyl Alford Murray. He was the youngest of 10 children. He was a World War II veteran, having proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Begor. He was most proud that his ship was present for the Bikini Atoll atom bomb testing.
George retired from General Dynamics in 1971. After retiring, George and wife Syble were actively involved with Begor reunions. They traveled extensively including many trips to Europe and Israel. George’s main hobbies included continuing the family genealogy research and spending time with family.
George was preceded in death by loving wife, Syble; brothers, Emory, Herman, Winston, Everett, Nelson and Dan; and sisters, Helen Lynstandt, Gwendolyn Walsh and Rosemary Blair.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Barton and husband, Paul, of White Settlement; sons, James of Lakeside, and Richard and wife, Lynn, of Fort Worth; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
