Gerald “Gerry” Stell

Gerald “Gerry” Richard Stell of Granbury passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019. Visitation will be Friday, June 21 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 22 at 11:00 AM at Acton Cemetery.
Gerald was born in Paris, Texas on October 19, 1938 to Roy and Dorothy Stell. He married his wife Janis on November 13, 1964 in Dallas, Texas. Gerald received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from North Texas State University in 1964. For nearly 50 years he worked in the insurance underwriting industry, beginning as a clerk (while attending college full time) and retiring as a vice president. He worked for Employers Insurance of Texas for 35 years, and Employers General Insurance for 12 years.
Gerald was devoted to his family, and he loved to travel. Reading, building model airplanes, cooking and playing with his dog Baxter were some of his favorite hobbies. He attended Acton Baptist Church for many years where he was an active member of his Sunday School class.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Janis Marie Stell. Survivors include his daughters: Nancy Platt and husband Doug of Ft. Worth and Sharon Tiller and husband Chris of Fayetteville, GA; grandchildren: Austin Myers, Will Tiller, and Jeff Tiller; sister-in-law Marilyn Grable and husband Gary; and Janis’s sister- in-law Cathy Dummer.
