Glendon Leon Stokes, aged 90, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021.
Glendon was born in Winnsboro, Texas on April 24, 1931, the first of six children born to Preston and Leona Stokes. While he was still a young boy the family moved to Lynn County, Texas and
began a life of cotton farming near the small town of O’Donnell. Glendon graduated from O’Donnell High School in 1947 and embraced the legacy of West Texas Cotton throughout his lifetime.
In that same year, he married the love of his life, Bobbie. Within a few years, the young couple moved to Fort Worth where they raised their two daughters. Glendon supported the family as a
long-distance truck driver which fueled his lifelong passion for travel. During their 61-year marriage, Bobbie and Glendon traveled extensively together, with their daughters, and ultimately with
their grandchildren. They traveled through all 50 states and to Europe and took several cruises. If either of them had a regret at the end, it would likely have been that they didn’t travel even
more.
As important as travel was to Glendon, he was even more passionate about authentic country music and enjoyed it in some form every day of his life. He enjoyed countless concerts and meeting
the stars backstage for photographs, autographs, and story-telling. It was impossible to think of Glendon without hearing country music in the background.
Bobbie and Glendon were ultimately blessed with 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Nothing pleased Glendon more than having the kids at his home on the lake, and as often as not,
one or more of the little ones would be at his knee or in his lap. This is what brought him true happiness.
Glendon was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Maxine Bairrington, and a brother, J.W. Stokes. Especially difficult for Glendon was the loss of his beloved wife, Bobbie, and his
daughter, Leisa Maupin.
Although he was fortunate to find love a second time in his marriage to Bonnie, she, too, was to predecease him.
Those remaining to cherish the many memories of Glendon are his daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Danny Taylor, as well as his grandchildren, Kyle Taylor, Cody Maupin, Jamie Justice,
Ashley Grice, Lauren Brady, and his bonus grandson, Christian Ogle, as well as 11 great-grandchildren and countless neighbors and good friends. Also surviving him are two brothers, Rex Stokes
and Larie Stokes, and his sister, Sherry Natiello.
