Mrs. Hazel Porterfield was born to Rolla Barrett and Martha Spear in Dry Creek, Louisiana. Mrs. Hazel Porterfield was born to Rolla Barrett and Martha Spear in Dry Creek, Louisiana. After graduating high school, Hazel moved to Lafayette, Louisiana and attended Southwest Louisiana State University.
She married Bill Porterfield in 1939 and moved to Waco, Texas. Hazel returned to college at Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, receiving her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Education.
One of her greatest accomplishments was raising her four children; Jo Ann Porterfield, Bill Porterfield, Nell Porterfield Drysdale and Michael Porterfield. Her next love was teaching. Her career spanned some thirty-three years in Texas and Louisiana. Hazel had many interests. Reading, playing bridge, fishing and traveling being the most favored. In 1990 she and Bill joined Acton Methodist Church where she was active in the Fellowship Class.
Preceded in death by her son Michael Porterfield; granddaughter, Lori’ and her husband Bill Porterfield.
Survivors include: Jo Ann Porterfield of Winnsboro, Texas; Bill and Jana Porterfield of Nevada City, California; Nell and Fred Drysdale of Granbury, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and more coming shortly.
Funeral services: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Acton United Methodist Church .
Visitation: 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015.
Interment: Private for family only.
Memorial s may be made to Acton Methodist Church and Trinity Mission Nursing and Rehabilitation of Granbury.
Hazel was a devoted wife; loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She lived her life accordingly through her love of Christ. She was loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed.
