KELLER — Hilda Chaney Morlan, 88, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, in Grapevine.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. Interment: Long Creek Cemetery in Hood County. Visitation: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Hilda was born May 10, 1923, in Gambrills, Md., to Allen and Minnie May Phillips Chaney. She loved to sing, travel and make hand-stitched quilts. One of her last trips was to Cozumel, Mexico. She was a great whistler and was at times asked to perform “Ava Maria” at weddings. After retirement Hilda did mission work in California during the World’s Fair. She was always there to help with her family when needed and was the family genealogist. She was an active member of the DAR and helped with their Indian missions. She was a member of Tomahawk Baptist Church in Midlothian, Va., and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Albuquerque, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl Morlan; brothers, Peter Chaney and James Chaney; and sisters, Francis Connolly and Ruth Crowthers.
Survivors: Daughters, Ruth E. Blackwell and husband, Walter, of Keller, Annette M. Spitzer of Chesterfield, Va.; brother, Alfred Chaney of Kilmarnock, Va.; sister, Phyllis Murphy of Highland Falls, N.Y.; grandchildren, Stephanie Blackwell, Ryan Spitzer, Jason Spitzer and Katherine Spitzer; and several nieces and nephews.
