Hugh Montgomery Smith, 88, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Glen Rose.

Hugh was born July 29, 1927 in Florence, South Carolina to William and Marjorie Smith. Hugh attended Georgetown Law School, where he received his degree. He was veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II; then obtained the rank of Captain in the Naval Reserve. He married Nancy Douglass April 4, 1950 in Washington, D.C. Hugh practiced law in regards to labor relations as well as general law. He was a founding member of the Somervell Water District Board, a board member and was instrumental in the creation of the reservoir. His civil contributions were recognized by the naming of the Hugh M. Smith Water Treatment Plant. Hugh was a civic leader, always working towards the betterment of our world. Some of his memberships included the Optimist Club, the Lions Club, the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. He was a wordsmith and a true bible scholar, teaching Sunday school class at the church. In Hugh’s spare time he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and indoors, woodworking; many family members have Hugh creations in their homes. Most of all, the family remembers Hugh as a storyteller.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Nancy, his parents, his brothers Charles Smith and William H. Smith, Jr.
Hugh leaves behind his children Douglass St. Clair Smith and wife Lisa Lefkort, Pinckney Moorer Smith and wife Virginia, Catherine Forshee Bise; grandchildren Alexander Douglass Smith and wife Kara, Mary Tevis Diaz and husband Manny, Jessica Coquese Smith, Jacob Ryan Smith and wife Brandie, Casey Oliver Bise and wife Megan, Virginia Claire Bise; great grandchildren Alexander Montgomery Diaz and Elias Shelby Diaz; brother St. Clair Smith and wife Colleen; sister in-law Jeanette Smith ; numerous nieces and nephews.
