Ila Verne was born October 12, 1925 to Zora V. and Annie Mabelle Simpson Lobban in Clovis, N. M. She was married to James C Stull, her precious love for 69 years.
She attended schools in Clovis, NM and graduated from Clovis High School in 1943. Ila Verne graduated from McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas in 1947. She was chosen to be listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1946.
She entered Federal Civil Service teaching on the Navajo Indian Reservation, Leupp. AZ. Later, she transferred to Amarillo AFB, TX, then Altus, AFB, OK and Reese AFB, Lubbock, TX where she retired in 1986 in the capacity of Contracting Officer.
Ila Verne was a former member and officer of the American Assn of University Women, American Business Women’s Assn and the American Assn of Military Comptrollers.
Through the years as a volunteer, she served as church secretary and church accountant. Missing Sunday School was a rarity – although she was seldom a pupil – but a teacher.
Since moving to Glen Rose in 2004, she volunteered at the Somervell County Citizens Center. She participated in the monthly 42 tournaments where she and her partner, Dorothy Jo Osborn, won many blue ribbons and the 2009 yearly “42” Team Trophy.
The family request in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, Glen Rose, where she had taught the 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School 2006 – 2010 at age79 – 83, or Somervell County Cancer Support Group, Glen Rose.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 69 years, James C “Jim” Stull, Jr, her parents and brothers: Leslie, Leonard, and Elton Lobban; grandson, William E (Billy Gene) Stull, Jr.
