ImaJean “Jean” Wood

ImaJean “Jean” Wood, 87, passed away on November 23, 2021, at a hospital in Fort Worth. She was born on December 17, 1933, in Parker County, Texas to Earl Herbert and Nescaleto Phillips.

Service:  11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Biggers Funeral Chapel, visitation prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.

Interment:  Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth, Texas

Jean married Victor Wood in 1950. They enjoyed 54 happy years with each other until Vic’s passing in 2004. She was devoted and supportive of the 20+ military years that Vic spent in the Air Force. Jean raised her family, traveled abroad, and embraced the life of her husband’s military service. Always a hard worker, Jean had various jobs during this time, and that would continue throughout the rest of her life. After settling in Fort Worth, Jean worked in the Fort Worth Independent School District as a secretary for many years. She was a dedicated and loyal employee and maintained the respect of co-workers and management alike.

Jean was an avid coin collector, a wonderful cook, an Elvis fan, a great bowler, and a coca-cola drinker. She loved the summertime and the sun. She had beautiful penmanship, loved playing cards, kept up with the news of the day, and thought she was an excellent driver. Jean knew her neighbors, her bankers, the servers at her favorite restaurants, and the employees where she conducted her business. And they knew her too. In fact, Jean never met a stranger. She had a gift of being able to communicate with whoever was around her at the moment. Many would say that after having a conversation with her, she knew more about them than they thought they had disclosed. On that note, she was also generous to a fault. A member of the Presbyterian Church, Jean donated her time and money to the church and to its causes. She also always had a little money for those less fortunate.

Jean loved her family and extended family. She carried each and every family member in her heart, and she was never happier than when she could see her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She spent time with her sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, and her multitude of nieces and nephews. Jean knew everyone’s birthday and their children’s birthdays. Talking on the phone with family members was an expected daily event. She was friendly and feisty, and she loved life. Jean had an infectious laugh, and a world of memories and experiences that she was happy to share with anyone. She’ll live on in the lives of those who loved her and will be missed indeed.

Survivors: Daughters and sons-in-law, Glinda and Bill King and Vickie and Michael Harris, all of Fort Worth; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Molly Wood of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Cynthia Cline of Austin; Bill King Jr., Joe Wood, Michelle Ashcraft, Tom Wood, all of Fort Worth; and Melanie Harris of Alexandria, Va.; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
