Irene Wartes graduated from Lipan High School in 1938. She finished that year as a top tennis player for the State of Texas, playing a game in what is now the parking lot by the Admin building at Pearl and Morgan. She married her first date and love Berl Rush in 1940, had three daughters, and worked inside and outside the home for the majority of her life. While delivering Meals-on-Wheels in Granbury, she made so many new friends who along with her church family filled her life with joy and sharing every day. Irene was outgoing, friendly, helpful, and full of life.
After surviving breast and uterine cancer, Irene became active in the United Way programs and walked the survivors’ walk 15 years in a row. Her last walk at age 92, she was assisted around the track with a smile beaming on all faces. She outlived two of her daughters and her husband, but is now reunited with all in her heavenly home. She went in peace and blessed all who saw her to the end.
Irene Rush loved her life, her long incredible and happy life. She blessed all who knew her.
