GLEN ROSE — J.D. Martin, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015, in Granbury, Texas surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral: A celebration of JD’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Wiley Funeral Home in Glen Rose.
Burial: White Church Cemetery in Somervell County.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015, at the funeral home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219.
J.D. was born July 20, 1923, in Cleburne, Texas. He spent 21 years in the United States Air Force where he was awarded the Commendation Medal and Purple Heart. He began his military career as a tail gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress. During a mission, his plane was shot down over Germany. After parachuting from his damaged aircraft, J.D. was captured and spent two years in Stalag 17B prison camp until being liberated by General Patton’s Eighth Army in 1945. J.D. retired with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
J.D. was a member and Past Master of Glen Rose Masonic Lodge # 525. He had been a Master Mason for 63 years, inspiring countless new Masons. He was a 33rd Degree Inspector General Honorary Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Order of The Eastern Star for 62 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mattie Martin, and sisters, Irene Buzan and Maxine Bagby.
Survivors: His beloved wife of 71 years, Nann; son, Lloyd; daughter-in-law, Jeannie; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
