James Peter “Jim” Potter, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Saginaw on Saturday, September 10, 2016.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 16, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Jim was born September 23, 1944. He served in the Vietnam war as a member of the flight deck crew on the USS Ticonderoga, then in country as a member of the Navy Seabees. He was a retired crane operator with the Maxim Crane Co. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association Branch 011 and a Life Member of the VFW, serving as Commander of VFW Post 8235. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 0626 and of Elks Lodge 124.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, laughing, karaoke, BBQ cooking, and the occasional fishing trip.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ella Potter; sister, Bess Frank; and brothers Claude Potter and Earl Potter Jr.
Jim is survived by his long time companion, Elizabeth Rine; sons and their spouses, James and ReBecca Potter, David Potter, Scott and Ronda Potter, and their mother Judy Potter; brother, Charles Potter and sister, Edna Luttrell; grandchildren, Joseph Potter, Jeffrey Potter, James Potter Jr., Jacob Potter, Courtney Potter, and Elizabeth Kate Fleming; great-grandchildren, Jace Potter, Emma Potter, and Elayna James Potter.
