James Robert “Moose” Lawhon, passed away Friday, May 1, 2020.
James was born March 28, 1955 in Blackwell, Okla. to Donnie and Edith Abshire Lawhon. He really did not have typical hobbies. James was a “working man”, the hardest working man you could have ever met and with the kindest heart. James was an electrician by trade, but he could make, fix, build and create just about anything with his hands.
He enjoyed working our land, working cattle, tinkering in his shop, and watching the sun set from the porch every afternoon with his wife, Tonya and drinking a fresh cup of coffee. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix, and he would teach you anything you wanted to learn! James and Tonya both enjoyed getting their hands dirty, he taught her various things in the shop, from masonry work to welding. He was an amazing father and always encouraged his kids to work hard so that they could build their futures. James was someone you could count on if you were ever in a bind, always willing to help a friend in need and never liked to see anyone struggle. He loved his animals, dogs, cats, and cows, you name it! If ever he had a friend in need, he was there to help! On occasion, the pair enjoyed going out to the VFW to shoot a game of pool and take a spin on the dance floor. Their life was simple, it was being together at home, working their ranch, and reaping the benefits and splendors of their work.
A few words from Tonya:
“He was my best friend and the most amazing husband anyone could ever be blessed with, my protector, my guardian angel on earth. There wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t let me know how much he loved me, how proud he was of me, of how beautiful I am. He would always introduce me as his wife and say, “I got papers on that woman”, and it always made everyone laugh. I take so much pride to be able to call him my husband and carry his name. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. “
James was preceded in death by his sister, Collette Bayless.
Survivors: Wife, Tonya Lawhon; daughter, Kjirsten; sons, Kyle and Dakota; niece, Deena Tedder; and multiple great-nieces and nephews.
