LIPAN — Jane Perkins Smith, 72, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 in Lipan. Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. Burial: Holly Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Granbury. Memorials: Fosters Home for Children in Stephenville, Lipan Church of Christ or American Cancer Society.
The daughter of Charlie and Hazel Kennon Perkins was born October 29, 1939 in Fort Worth. Her maternal great-grandfather was Captain A.J. Wright, a Civil War veteran and Hood County’s first sheriff after Reconstruction. Her paternal and maternal grandfathers, G.W. Perkins and Bert Kennon were also pioneer residents of Granbury. At age 17, G.W. Perkins moved to Grangury from Bastrop County. In 1880, he purchased a farm within a mile of Granbury and farmed until his death in 1941. Her maternal grandfather, Bert Kennon, operated a meat market and combined cafe on the Granbury square and was famous all over the area for his homemade chili.
A graduated of Kaplan High School in Kaplan, LA., Jane attended Abilene Christian University and graduated from the Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Medical Technology in Abilene. She later obtained her Bachelors of Applied Arts and Science in Biology from Tarleton State University.
Jane, a retired Medical Technologist, was the laboratory director at lake Granbury Hospital from 1970 until 1999, beginning when the hospital was located just off the square. She set up the first blood bank and microbiology departments at the hospital. She was also instrumental in introducing automation to the chemistry and hematology departments. She was a member of several professional organizations including: The American Society of Clinical ()Pathologist, The American Association of Bio-Analyst, The American Association of Blood Banks, The Texas Clinical laboratory Association and The Texas Clinical Laboratory Management Association. Jane served many years on the Hood County Board with the American Cancer Society, also as the Reach to Recovery volunteer for the Association. After retirement, Jane was on the board and secretary for Hood County Child Protective Services and Child Welfare Board.
Jane married Frank Wayne Smith in Lipan on March 15, 1981. Frank was a high School Ag and history teacher at GISD for over 18 years before retiring in 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents and a step-daugher, Julia Kay Smith.

Smith of Lipan; sons, Bart Harrison and wife, Wanina of Azle and Brad Harrison and wife, Tracey of Lipan; step-sons, Colby Smith of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Charles Smith and wife, Lisa of DeLand, Fla.; grandchildren, Trent and Madison Harrison of Lipan and Logan Harrison of Azle; step-grandchildren, Tyler and Hannah Smith of Deland, Fla. sisters, Betty Addison of Lipan and Joan Brewer of Seymour, Mo.; niece, Ann Stobaugh of Lipan; nephew, John Addison of Abilene; several cousins.
