Born August 27, 1961, in Merkel, Texas to Fred and Janece Alexander, he was the fourth of six siblings.
Kirk was first and foremost a family-man. He worked alongside his father and brothers in his youth in their family mechanic shop and developed his love of all thing’s trucks. Kirk’s father taught him that if it’s already broken you can’t make it worse so let’s fix it, giving Kirk the skills to turn his hand to almost anything he wanted.
Kirk was born in Texas but was predominately raised in Sulphur, Louisiana, graduating from high school in May 1979. He has always worked, mowing lawns, mechanic shops and fast-food joints in his youth.
When he left school, he went to work for Donaldson Ford and from there, for the Cameron Telephone company replacing party telephone lines. He often spoke of the warm welcome he got from the locals and how well-fed he was for giving them something that most of us don’t even have in our homes anymore, dedicated landline telephones. He was also attending Sowella Technical College in the evenings to study drafting which led his to his long career in the oil industry. During all this time Kirk was still working with his Dad at his auto shop, he just never stopped!
In June 1979, Kirk married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Jean Motes. The marriage ended in divorce in September 1981. Kirk was married to Sandra “Sandy” Gail White in December 1982. The couple had three children, Jeffery, Jonathan and Erin. The marriage ended in divorce in 2008. When Kirk met Sandy, he was already working for Conoco Philips in Lake Charles, drawing, and overseeing the installation of offshore oil rigs in the Gulf, before they moved their young family to Midland, Texas in March 1990, to work in the Conoco Philips drafting office.
Kirk left Conoco after nearly 20 years and began working for Sabre in Odessa, Texas in 2001, where he continued working up to the time of his death. His experiences with Sabre were crazy at times, going from oilfield work, to working in Washington D.C. on the 2001 Anthrax response, to New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina and back to the oil fields of West Texas. While he appreciated the opportunities and experiences his travels gave him, not being home with his children left him with a sense of sadness.
He did however have many great stories of the things they did together. Whether it was loading them all in the car to go to Louisiana for Thanksgiving and Christmas, to backpacking with the boys and Troop 175 in Midland or having the opportunity to have a vacation in Florida with Erin, just the two of them. He loved attending all the activities the children did; FFA shows, sporting events, scouts and band. Supporting their endeavors, he was proud to see them become who they are today.
Each time Kirk became a grandfather he was filled with joy. He always tried to be in town for their arrival into this world and did with just two exceptions, when they decided to make early appearances. As with his children, he wanted to be a part of their lives and again tried to be there as much as possible for birthdays and other activities they took part in.
Kirk and Gillian were married in 2010 and lived in upstate New York before moving back to his beloved Texas in 2020. Here, they spent the happiest of times building their home together and being close to the children and growing number of grandchildren. Kirk considered himself so blessed to have the opportunity to watch his family grow and be a greater part of their lives back here in Texas.
Kirk is survived by his wife, Gillian of Azle; sons, Jeffery and his wife, Kendra of Midland, Texas, and their five boys, Jonathan and his wife, Ashleigh of Midland, Texas, and their two boys, and daughter, Erin and her husband, Trapper of Uvalde, Texas, and their son and two daughters. He is also survived by his siblings, Randal, Lynn, Rex, Paula and Pamela.
