Jeffry Mark Copenhaver passed away May 17, 2022 at his home in Granbury, greeted by a “well done my good and faithful servant” from his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jeffry was born on January 12, 1949 to Deb and Leslie Copenhaver and welcomed by big sister Debbie.
Jeffry grew up in the northwest with a love for rodeo and calf roping. He went from winning local rodeos at the age of fourteen to a World Calf Roping Championship in 1975. He married Sherry Geschwendt at the famous Ellensburg rodeo in September of 1978, then was supernaturally blessed in 1983 with the birth of their daughter Shandy. Jeffry and Sherry became pastors of the first Cowboy Church in 1986, in the bull riding arena at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, then building a beautiful log church “New Frontier Cowboy Church” on their property in Granbury, Texas.
From roping schools in many nations, to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ wherever they went, Jeff and Sherry fulfilled their call from God to go to the rodeo world, the western world and the world. Jeff’s book of rodeo and life lessons “God wants you to Win” has been read by thousands. A friend and mentor to so many, he will be greatly missed. His impact will be forever imprinted in the lives and hearts of many. He was preceded in death by his father Deb, mother Leslie Dinnison and stepmother Cheryl Copenhaver.
He is survived by his wife Sherry, daughter: Shandy Stromberg (Cody), grandchildren: Chloe, Heidi, Dixie, and Bjorn, sisters: Debbie Fellows (Fred), Kellie Hurt (Fred), brothers: Guy Copenhaver (Valeesha) and Matt Copenhaver (Kalo).
