GRANBURY — Jerry “Jake” Lee Oliver Jr., 91, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2011.
Service: Services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at First United Methodist Church. Interment: Lower Green Creek Cemetery in Stephenville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Jerry was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Aquilla, Texas, to Jerry Lee Oliver, Sr. and Pearlie Morton Oliver. He married Marjorie Hodge, Dec. 10, 1939, in Dallas. Jake was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War Two and served on Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He retired from Skillerns Drug Stores in 1984 after 44 years. He had lived in Granbury for the past 28 years. Jake enjoyed wood carving and whittling angels and crosses. He also enjoyed traveling. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, two brothers, a sister and a grandson.
Survivors: Daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon & John Coffin of Oak Harbor, Wash., Laurel and Bill Kennedy of Granbury, Elaine and Jeff Koch of Lexington, Ky.; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Cissy Oliver of Gun Barrell City, Texas; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Pearl Carpenter of Stephenville; and several nieces and nephews.
