Joan L. Brant, 71, passed away Monday, July 31, 2012.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday in Biggers Funeral Chapel.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to an animal shelter of choice.
Joan was born July 17, 1941, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to Charles Ray and Grace Denger Ray.
She grew up in Warren County, Pennsylvania, graduating from Youngsville (Pennsylvania) High School. She attended nursing school at Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania, obtaining an R.N. in the spring of 1963.
She entered the Air Force as a second lieutenant nurse in August, 1963, and was stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. Shortly after her entering the service, she met her husband, Ray, who was also in the Air Force. They were married in Montgomery, Alabama, on April 25, 1964. Although she left the military in two years, she continued as an Air Force wife and mother until her husband retired in September, 1978.
The family spent seven years on Long Island, New York, until moving to Fort Worth in August, 1985. Joan worked as a registered nurse in nursing home environments until she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996.
She was an avid bridge player, ceramic enthusiast and gardener, participating in many groups in the Fort Worth area.
She is survived by: Loving husband of 48 years, Raymond F. Brant of Fort worth; son, James Brant and wife, Michelle, of Fort Worth; daughter, Christine L. Brant of Alexandria, Virginia; sister, Karen Messinger of Warren, Pennsylvania.; and grandchildren, Davon and Logan Brant.
