Joe D. Harris, 93, departed this life peacefully Saturday, January 19, 2013, at an Azle hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Biggers Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Nelson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Biggers Funeral Home.
Joe was born January 20, 1919, in Wise County to parents, Barney and Maud Harris. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Briar Church of Christ. He retired on December 31, 1982, as a lieutenant after 35 years of service with the Fort Worth Fire Department.
He was an avid fisherman and gardener and enjoyed sharing fruits of his labor with relatives and friends. He and Ann were well known for entertaining friends with fish fries and barbecues at their home. Joe was a wonderful cook.
Joe was well known as a successful businessman in and around the Azle area for many years. He served on the board at Shady Oaks Bank in Lake Worth. Over the years, he got pleasure in helping people in need who were down on their luck.
Joe will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mildred Williamson and Marguerite Ash; and a brother, Harry Harris Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Tipton Harris; daughter, Lorie; grandson, Brad; sisters, Billie Rycroft and Bonnie Jessup. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews; extended family; and a host of friends.
